The most important element of every story:

Emotions.

If you can’t make your audience FEEL something, it’s hard for them to remember what you just said.

As a result, there’s no way they’re going to take any action.

It’s like this girl you’re asking out on a date.

If you can’t make her feel anything, she’s NOT gonna say “Yes”!

Your audience most certainly won’t be interested in your call-to-action (CTA) and neither are they going to be inspired by what you have to say.

So..

Let’s break down a recent thread I have written and published on Twitter.

But before that, let’s take a look at the IMPACT of the thread.

Here are some of the comments I’ve received:

And here are some who dropped into my DMs interested in the FREE consultation:

The thread did not go viral, but the ones who read it could RESONATE DEEPLY.

(I appreciate you for reading my newsletter and threads)

How do I know that?

Well, it’s simple. If your audience shares more about their own experiences in their responses, you know your story has a deep impact on them. You have inspired them to speak up.

Now, you may be wondering.. how did I do that? It’s DARK MAGIC.. I cast a spooky spell to put you in a trance and under my control. You can only read Pang’s content and no one else’s. 👀 Jokes aside..

Let’s DIVE right into it!

1) A powerful HOOK

To capture the audience’s attention, I started with a HOOK.

A POWERFUL one: “WORSE advice ever”

— I even CAPS the word “Worse” to make it stand out!

Following that, I mentioned something relatable → “You should write 3 threads per week.”

And I even followed up with → “For FCK sake, don’t write cause everyone told you so.*” This challenges your perspective towards writing.

Before you read on, a powerful hook has already made you FEEL something.

Perhaps, it made you feel uncomfortable because you’ve been following what everyone told you.

Or perhaps, you’re feeling a little heartfelt, because someone out there said something you resonate deeply with.

2) Use DIALOGUES

I just used a dialogue in my HOOK above - “You should write 3 threads per week.”

Notice how powerful that is?

The word “should” here evokes strong emotions.

This FEELS as if someone is putting a knife at your throat, forcing you to do something because you need to, rather than you WANT TO.

3) Using QUESTIONS

Questions are the best way to make your audience think.

And it’s an even better way to make them realize something..

“When was the last time you read a thread? What did you learn from it?”

Notice how I used these questions to drive a point?

And I go on to further elaborate on how “Most threads haven’t been helpful.”

These challenged your perspective and made you FEEL that the way you’ve been looking at threads may not be the best after all.

4) A relatable CHARACTER

— And that’s me!

Noticed how I shared my experience here “When I first started growing…”

This is proof that I’ve experienced everything you’ve been through. And I understand how you FEEL.

When I share my own experiences, you could relate to me.

You FEEL like you’ve been through or are going through a phase that I went through previously.

I even shared how I felt → “I didn’t find joy in any of that stuff”.

If you feel the same way, we just made a CONNECTION!

I even showed you how I’m creating AUTHENTIC VALUE by sharing my own experiences with “Brew Bombs” and “Newsletters”.

5) Building TENSION

Throughout my story, I’ve been building tension.

→ Starting with a powerful HOOK to make you interested.

→ Continuing with QUESTIONS that challenge your perspectives.

→ Sharing RELATABLE experiences based on what I’ve been through.

→ Gradually transitioning into the main PURPOSE of sharing this story.

→ Sharing ACTIONABLE ways to be authentic and provide value simultaneously.

→ Back to sharing my PERSONAL experiences on how I’m doing it - to show you that you can too!

→ Reiterate the main TAKEAWAYS of this story.

→ Adding a CTA at the end.

You would have noticed that the structure of my story is purposeful and it follows a flow. It makes you want to find out more about what’s going to happen next!

It’s like watching a detective show, wanting to find out the mystery behind an unusual case.

Make your audience FEEL CURIOUS enough to want to read on till the end.

6) Use PACING

What do I mean by that?

Here’s an example of how I used pacing.

“When I write, I ENJOY the writing process. And I look forward to READING my writing. So why does it matter?”

Notice how I used short, snappy sentences and CAPS to bring out the “HEAT”?

And followed by longer sentences to bring out the impact of EMOTIONAL moments.

“When you FALL IN LOVE with your writing, you’ll write BETTER. Because others will be able to feel that burning PASSION and ENERGY in your tone and choice of words.”

How does it make you FEEL? Do you feel ENERGIZED?

So be sure to mix up short and long sentences to keep your readers on the edge of this roller coaster ride!

7) Use SARCASM

Sarcasm is by far one of the best ways to drive impact.

One of two things will occur:

A: You make the reader FEEL AGITATED - because you’ve hit a pain point. “OUCH!”

B: You make the reader LAUGH - because they understand the point you’re trying to make here.

Notice how I’ve used that here:

“Should I write another “10 sentences that will..” thread? Or do you guys prefer listicles?”

Such content has been recycled over and over again without authenticity, so I made an extra effort to point them out by asking you if I should do something that’s against what I’m for.

Best way to make an impact, isn’t it?

8) Finish STRONG

The ENDING of your story is MORE IMPORTANT than your hook!

You don’t want your audience to FEEL confused or lost like a headless chicken running in circles after reading through the whole story.

This is why you should reiterate the main takeaways from it.

So your readers feel inspired to wanna take action after this!

Just like how I did over here - with a clear structure using the “Rule of one”.

One audience. One pain point. One lesson.

Short and simple, but works!

Optional:

9) Use a CTA

In this case, my CTA is a reward for my audience.

To reward you for reading till the end, I’ve offered “5 free consultation calls!” And all you have to do is just drop me a DM!

Make your readers FEEL rewarded for reading till the end.

You can even leave them with a question to ponder, or even leave them with more resources to help them out on their journey!

This is the best chance for you to GO THE EXTRA MILE to show your audience that you CARE ABOUT THEM!

MAKE THEM FEEL THAT YOU CARE!!

BONUS:

10) Show, don’t tell

If all else fails, you can always write with vivid imagery and use metaphors to show, rather than tell a story.

This will paint a scenario that will drive a greater impact on your audience!

If you’ve noticed, I did not use this throughout my story - but it still works nevertheless.

Be sure to read through the ENTIRE THREAD if you haven’t done so! The best way to learn HOW to write with emotions is to read through stories and analyze why you feel in a certain way, and what made you feel that way.

Hence I would like to make a point.

You DON’T have to use every single technique to make your readers FEEL something throughout your story.

Write with the flow.

Practice and try out different techniques! See which one sticks with you the most!
